Do you like horror movies that are actually scary? If so you should watch Paranormal Activity online. There have been several reports of people leaving mid-movie because they were so scared. The general consensus is that this is one of the scariest movies you'll ever see.

There's nothing complex about the plot: a young couple is haunted by a demon. Boring, you say? Not exactly. It only took a week and $15,000 to shoot, but director Oren Peli did wonders with his simple resources.

The first screening was in 2007 at the Screamfest Film Festival. It was also screened at the Slamdance Film Festival in 2008. Your point of view is that of the video camera the couple sets up to capture paranormal phenomena.

Oren Peli's own experience with strange household phenomena were the basis for the film. Peli says he is very afraid of supernatural spirits and wanted to channel the fear into something creative. Peli spent a year getting his own house ready for filming by adding furniture, carpet, and paint, and building a stairwell. He spent considerable time studying paranormal activity too. If you watch Paranormal Activity online, you might think it is a trick because it just isn't scary.

Peli wanted the movie to be that way and to avoid excessive gore and bloodshed to keep the tension building almost imperceptibly. It is amazing what $15,000 and a hand held camera can create. There was no script as such, just outlines of scenes. The actors created their own dialog based on scene descriptions.

Dreamworks planned to remake the movie and release it and the original version on the DVD. The contract with Peli, however, included a one-time screening of the original to see audience reaction. The audience's reaction let Dreamworks know there was no reason at all to do a remake.
